It also pokes fun at the patriarchy and is a " master’s thesis on feminism." This journey of self-discovery in the real world allows the Barbie movie to be philosophical, providing an insightful exploration of the human condition and the meaning of life. It's an existential film at its core, as revealed by the trailer when Barbie's giant blowout party is interrupted by her contemplating death, which leads her to leave Barbie Land in search of truth. However, it's far from a cash grab, as it actually has something to say. The zaniness of Barbie, combined with Gerwig’s interest in skewering the patriarchy, sometimes makes the movie a baggy, tonally dissonant viewing experience. In this existential exegesis on what it means to be a woman, and a human, Gerwig reflects our world back to us through the lens of Barbie, and in doing so, delivers a barbed statement wrapped in a visually sumptuous & sublimely silly cinematic confection. It is maybe down to Gerwig’s confidence and generosity as a feminist film-maker that she gives all the best lines to Ryan Gosling, who is allowed to steal the whole film.ĭumps a lot of tones and ideas out of its toybox but manages to connect the disparate parts, resulting in an all-too-rare thoughtful blockbuster. ![]() This is a truly original work - one of the smartest, funniest, sweetest, most insightful and just plain flat-out entertaining movies of the year. Thankfully, Slipways does have some tricks up its sleeve to add a little depth. I suppose this is the trade-off for a more simplified experience. Connecting planets for trade can feel more like a game of snap than a carefully plotted empire. Overall, I found my first few games to be enjoyable, but I did feel like Slipways functions almost more like a puzzle game than a strategy. This is generally measured in terms of profits from trade, happiness of citizens (they grow displeased if their planet isn’t receiving what it needs) and the vastness of the trade network. The objective is, within this window, to build as successful an empire as possible. ![]() Making sure each world gets what it needs (and, ideally, sends its own produce to somewhere that needs it) is central to success in Slipways.Ī standard game of Slipways lasts 25 years in-game and about an hour in real-time. This leads to the last stage: creating slipways between worlds ensures that these planets can trade their valuable resources and keep their populations happy. Each kind of world both produces certain types of resources and requires others for its activities. These options range from simple colonies to factories, mines and many others. Probes can be flung from held planets to identify pings within range (usually revealing some worlds to explore), then these worlds can be clicked to show a small dropdown menu of options for development. The core of the game can be broken down into three key actions: discovering new worlds with probes, deciding what each new planet should do (from a limited list for each world), and – finally – linking worlds together with trade routes (the titular slipways) to establish healthy trades.Įach of these three stages is extremely simple and handled with one or two clicks. Slipways wisely simplifies the first run by removing pre-game choices and launching a basic scenario. A comprehensive tutorial is available to read in-game, and this takes all of five minutes, making for a swift introduction to all of Slipway’s systems.Īfter a quick read, it’s straight into trade empire management. Just another thought - have you tried disconnecting the +ve feed from the compressor clutch and feeding the clutch direct from the battery? That will prove the operation of the clutch at least. The generally accepted service life of a Lambda sensor is 10 years or 100k miles so the chances are renewing them and resetting the ECU will return things to normal operation. With the mileage at 133k on the last MoT in March, i'd suggest renewing the Lambda sensors and resetting the ECU and also running some Cataclean through the fuel system. It could be sensor 2 is unplugged or some other workaround has been used, assuming it has two sensors of course. If it has, i think you may have found the problem. Have you actually confirmed it has 2 sensors? If it is indeed the post-cat sensor it should follow what sensor 1 does but with a lower value. More worrying is the fact that the sensor 2 is showing 0.48V constantly. Until the sensors are hot enough (i presume they're heated on the Merc as they are on your Rover) they shouldn't give any voltage at all. The sensor 1 value that oscillates between 0.18 - 0.82V is correct for a hot engine under closed-loop control. Given it's not a Vee engine, i'd suggest the "sensor 2" value of a constant 0.48V is the post-cat sensor.
